Coachmen RVs

Bailey and I spent nearly a year looking at RVs. We even made sure to leave time available during our road trips to visit RV dealers in that area. Living in Omaha, Nebraska at that time, our dealer options were Camping World, A.C. Nelson, Bish’s, and Leach Camper Sales. Because we were looking for a C Class at the time, Camping World was our best option for the majority of the year we searched.

We grew to love the Thor Motor Coach brand, as that was the most common option. Places like Leach Camper Sales had many Forest River options that we truly loved along with Coachmen. When we visited Des Moines, RV One had some Jayco options. Early on, we realized that Winnebago was unlikely to be our top pick solely due to the inflated price you’re paying for the Winnebago logo on the coach.

We realized further down the road that we would have to switch gears and start shopping for a travel trailer. With doing so, our brand preferences were wiped. There are many more brand options for travel trailers and a huge influx of layouts. Travel trailers are the most common class of RVs sold due to their functionality. Our biggest stipulation was to find something that could handle colder weather, wasn’t too long, and had a layout that felt like a home (instead of a camper).

On the day in which we decided to make our purchase, we first looked around Bish’s and Camping World with little success. We originally overlooked the dealer that we ended up purchasing from, as they did not sell any motor homes, and that was our original criteria. A.C. Nelson is one of the largest Forest River Dealers in the country, or so we were told while there, and it seemed quite likely with the inventory the had available.

Our salesman, Roger, noted our wants/needs and showed us a few options. We decided after touring multiple units that we wanted a dual axel, and this helped narrow things down further. Now, we were looking at 4 trailers. If you have already been following our journey, you know that we landed on the 2022 Coachmen Freedom Express Select Edition. This trailer is just under 25ft, weighs only 4,700lbs (dry weight), has the dual axel, is completely insulated (under carriage as well to handle colder weather), and it truly feels like a home.

We had no intentions or expectations of connecting with Coachmen originally. However, while reviewing a few job postings, I found a listing for a Graphic Design position with their company. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up with a job offer, as it had on-site requirements. In a turn events, the application/interview process did lead to a relationship that has been incredible thus far. Coachmen offered to bring me on board as a brand ambassador.

As an ambassador, I was provided with a direct line of communicate to some incredible contacts at Coachmen who have been kind, helpful, and pleasant to interact with. This also gave Bailey and I the chance to tour the Freedom Express facility while we were in Middlebury, Indiana in May of 2022. We saw the care and dedication the Coachmen team has for their trailers, employees, and their customers.

Since purchasing our trailer, we’ve had the desire to continue looking at more and more Coachmen products. Bailey and I are a little different than most, as we actually enjoy the touring and shopping process that comes with finding a home. When searching for apartments, we would always tour a ton of units before making a decision. We would sometimes tour on occasion when we were not truly looking for a place. Now, living in our Coachmen travel trailer, we enjoy doing the same, looking at other designs/layouts on occasion.

We will—more than likely—never give up our current trailer. However, we do intend on purchasing a larger trailer in the future to park permanently on land we find and purchase, using it as our home base while we continue to travel with our Freedom Express. If we have it our way, we will purchase another Coachmen, as they have truly impressed us with their RVs (both motor homes and trailers). If you’re looking for an RV, I highly recommend that you consider the Coachmen brand! Maybe take a tour of the Freedom Express and let us know what you think!
